Want your product, book, or event reviewed?

blog for books

I love to write about the new things I discover and love here on The Girl from the Ghetto blog.  How else is anyone going to find out how good Green Bags work or how much I loved the new book Pat Conroy book if I don’t tell them?

For most of this blogs life I borrowed or bought my own books, dvds and other entertainment items and reviewed them simply out of the goodness of my heart.  I believe in giving great items a shout out.  I will still continue to do that, but if I anyone wants to help me out, I’ve created a little product wish list.

You may ask, why a wish list?  Honestly, because I need free stuff as I am newly unemployed and can’t justify spending money on myself when I have two kids who need things more than I do.  So I came up with this idea, and I hope it works.  People email me with requests for product and entertainment reviews quite often, and for the most part, I haven’t had the time to take them up on their offers.  I have accepted the occasional items to review for my blog, and  I’ve decided to let you all know that know that since I have plenty of free time, I’d love to take more of you up on your offers.  I promise you I’ll review the heck out of it here.

Here is a list of the types of items I’m looking for:

  • Books.  I love books and they have always been my luxury expense.  Since I’ve lost my job I haven’t been able to buy a single one, and it is killing me.  To see what types of books I’ve read or want to read, please visit my Goodreads profile page as I have over 800 books listed there.  www.goodreads.com/NerdGirlBlogger
  • CD’s.  I don’t talk enough about music here simply because I haven’t purchased a new cd since last Christmas and concert tickets have gotten so expensive.  I’m a huge fan of classic rock, but I do enjoy pop music, rock, alternative, techno, punk, disco, reggae, folk but especially singers and songwriters, easy listening, dance, metal, rap, hip hop, classical, and blues.  A little jazz, a little country.  And, I’m a huge fan of movie soundtracks and musicals, I must have at least 200.
  • DVD’s - I love TV Shows and Movies.  In my prime I was going to the movies three times a week.  I keep seeing all my old favorite TV shows come out on DVD and I’m dying to buy them.  I don’t even have Arrested Development and it was my favorite show for a while.  Same with new movie releases.  We’ve really cut back our movie-going and even got rid HBO and Showtime.  If you have free movie passes and want me to review new films, just email me, I’m there.  I’ll review any type of DVD release, we love every type of film and TV show.
  • Local events and restaurants in Detroit- Got a comedian coming to the Detroit area, or a play or musical appearing locally and want me to promote it?  I’m a huge fan of concerts, comedy shows, musicals, plays, restaurants, and other types of cultural events and festivals, etc.  This year our cultural budget is cut to $0, especially since one of our computers has just broken and we’d love to attend an event to review here.  Or, I’d love to attend your event alone, and talk all about here and on Facebook.
  • Health products - For those who promote health, I have many readers who love to read about my mutiple health issues and how I deal with them.  So many people with my medical conditions email me for tips and referrals.  As I’ve now cut out most of my medical expenses, please feel free to email me your product requests.
  • Cooking/Baking/Kitchen/Glassware/Cook Books - I’m Italian, and I love to cook and bake.  More importantly, I love to eat and blog about yummy meals I’ve made or experienced.  I don’t have enough of the tools I need to make the fabulous creations I should be making.  I make fantastic appetisers and a killer lasagna and meatloaf that is to die for, but I don’t even have a mixer.  For instance, I just bought cupcake pans and carriers and made my first cupcakes ever last weekend.  How sad is that?  All I can say is we eloped and never had a wedding reception, so we never purchased those type of items most people have and take for granted.  Not that my kitchen is ghetto, it is just not as nicely stocked as I wished it were.
  • Toys and Collectibles – Yep, I play with toys, and I’m not ashamed to admit it.  I love everything from Star Wars to the Smurfs to Breyer Horses to Barbies to my miniatures.  I have a cool collection of travel knickknacks.  I also love lunch boxes, anything with The Beatles on it, and I also collect post cards and magnets.
  • Bedding - I would die for a goose down heavyweight comforter.  Please make that dream a reality for me.  My alternative down comforter isn’t cutting it.

My current wish list:

  • The Beatles Rock Band

A girl who went to Liverpool on her honeymoon needs this game.  I’ve been singing those tunes since I was four years old.  I was born to play this game.  Wii only, please.  (P.S.  Honey, it’s ok, I’m dealing with it.  You can stop asking me every three days if you want to buy this for my birthday three months early.  I may need it, but maybe some kind publicist will send it to me by then so you can buy me my annual birthday jewelry.  This girl may be unemployed, but she still needs to SHINE!)

  • LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary

Because my little guy (And honestly, the entire family) would love it, and it is a long way to Christmas.

  • The Beatles Mono Box Set

Like I know this will never happen.  I know no one is going to send me this to review.  But it is fun to consider the possibility of it … that someone out there would someday send me the ultimate CD box set I would never buy for myself.

  1. LOVE your wish list idea! And if I had any extra moolah, I’d buy Beatles Rock Band for you :) Just because you deserve something you like!

    • Lupus Rants – Awe, thanks. I bought myself some cupcake pans, so I at least got one thing from it!
