2012 Holiday Gift Guide - Now Accepting Submissions

Are you looking for a way to get your book, product, or unique gift into the hands of others in need this holiday season, while also getting some free advertising on a book and product review blog? I had such a great time donating most of my 2011 Holiday Gift Guide items last year that I decided to featuring another gift guide on my blog again this year. I’ve been doing reviews & giveaways on this blog for years, but last year I thought it would be fun to profile some of my favorite books and items from great publishers and businesses, in the hopes these items would make great gifts for my readers.

I also wanted to do a gift guide again this year on my blog because every year, I donate gifts and books to several of my favorite Michigan charities. Since my charity budget has severely decreased again this year (due to unemployment and now, underemployment), I thought this gift guide would be a great way for me to donate more items to people in need here in Michigan.

I’ll be donating ALL of the books and toys I receive, and most (if not all) of the other products I receive to local charities. As someone who grew up poor, I know how happy your products and books will make these people. Plus, you’ll help me feel like I’ve accomplished something important this holiday season, since I’ve not been able to find a full-time job for the past three years.

Gifts for Women: clothing, accessories, coats, hats, gloves, scarves, blankets, books, music, movie and television DVDs, jewelry, candles, lotions, make-up, nail polish, hair styling products, other toiletries, handmade and other craft items, electronic items, holiday decor, food, household goods, organizational supplies, stationary, thank you cards, and any unusual or creative item not listed above.

Gifts for Men: books, clothing, accessories, coats, hats, gloves, scarves, blankets, books, music, movie and television DVDs, electronic items, sporting equipment, cards and other games, collectibles, toiletries and shaving kits, and food items.

Gifts for Children: books, clothing, accessories, purses, coats, hats, gloves, scarves, blankets, music, movie and television DVDs, Barbie’s, accessories, dolls, art supply kits, handheld or board games, jewelry, trucks, Lego’s, action figures, balls, board games, Star Wars items, craft kits, hair accessories and Bionicles.

Plus, I love to give the gift of reading for all ages. Last year, I donated nearly 200 books to a variety of charities, 30 or so from my 2011 Holiday Gift Guide, and the rest I provided from my collections from my visits to BookExpo America. Words can not describe the look on the faces of the staff at the nonprofits when they saw how many of the books were autographed first editions. I can only imagine how happy all of the people who receiving those books were. My only request is that I can not accept e-books, due to the fact that most of the children and adults living in the shelters I donate to do not own e-readers.
