I’ve got the biggest breaking book and movie news of my life–Judy Blume’s beloved ‘Tiger Eyes’ is coming to a theatre near you sometime in 2012!
Find out more about the upcoming film by watching my YouTube video now. After three attempts, I was able to get through it without crying. And, yeah, I am not ashamed to admit how dorky and sentimental I get, when it comes to my favorite authors!
In 1981, Judy Blume published the poignant coming-of-age novel, ‘Tiger Eyes.’ I read it as a scrappy and street smart 10-year-old girl, who was living wild on the streets of my ghetto neighborhood, trying to survive a challenging childhood filled with poverty, hunger, abuse, neglect and fear–since I survived a near-kidnapped by (well, he had the right look, it happened in the right area, but he was driving a different car) Michigan’s most famous child serial killer. Judy Blume and her novel ‘Tiger Eyes’ gave me the strength to handle living with my mentally ill mother and psychopathic stepfather. She also provided with my life motto, “Life is an adventure.” To find out that over 30 years later, Blume has now co-wrote the screenplay for ‘Tiger Eyes’ along with her son, Lawrence Blume (who also directs the film), is just so darn exciting. In fact, I’ve never been more excited about an adapted screenplay in all my life.

The role of Davey Wexler, the troubled teenager whose life gets turned upside down when her family moves to New Mexico after a terrible tragedy, is being played by ‘Gossip Girl’ star Willa Holland. Amy Jo Johnson (of ‘Felicity’ and ‘Power Ranger’ fame) is cast as Davey’s mother, and Wolf, the mysterious canyon dweller going through his own personal crisis, will be played by Tatanka Means.

I’ve waited 31 years for this book to be made into a movie. I can’t even begin to explain to you how happy my heart is today. As a young adult, ‘Tiger Eyes’ gave me the courage and strength I needed at just the right time, so I am so excited for yet another new generation to fall in love with Judy Blume and her writing, as I have.
