Knit Outta The Box iMitt© Texting Mittens Giveaway & Review – 2011 Holiday Gift Guide

When I was a little girl, I lived with my great-grandmother on weekends, summers and holidays. She loved to sew, and managed to teach me to sew by hand, crochet and knit, even though I had (and still have) the worst fine motor skills. I was extremely young, so I didn’t own my own hooks and needles, and eventually I lost the skills she diligently taught me, but I’ve always managed to hang onto my love and appreciation of handmade items, as I know how long it would take me to make a simple doily.

I was so excited when When Knit Outta The Box contacted me to ask if they could send me several of their products to feature them in my 2011 Holiday Gift Guide. Not only are they an online retailer of knitting products that are unique, earth friendly, and socially conscious, they are cool enough to also allow me to host a giveaway for their iMitt© Texting Mittens, which retail for $38. Don’t they look awesome? They are hand-knit by a woman’s cooperative in Bolivia, and every pair sold goes to helping these women reach their goal of financial independence.

I was sent the purple pair of mittens in size medium, which fit my man hands (I like to joke that I have man hands) perfectly. Usually, I buy a size large in gloves, but since this was the first time I have ever tried on mittens, I was glad that their website outlines their sizes in detail. The mittens come a variety of colors: Purple, Red, Off Black, Gray, Beige and Cream. The Medium size mittens have a circumference of 7.5″, length (fingertip to wrist) 7.5″, cuff: 6.” Their mittens also come in a size Large, with a circumference of 8.5″, length (fingertip to wrist) 8.5″, cuff: 6.”

I love my mittens, since they are so soft, as they are hand-knit with naturally dyed alpaca yarn. They are so practical, because I can use my phone to talk and text, and I can even use my laptop while wearing them. Since I have poor circulation, my entire body gets very cold in cold weather, and keeping my hands warm while working on my computer has become extremely hard to do. For the past 2 years, I have been wearing microwave mittens, and have been taking turns warming them up in the microwave every hour or so, which means I then have to sit still and not work to get my hands warmed up. With my new iMitt© Texting Mittens, I can do everything I want and I can stay warm. If you (or your teen or tween) have a need for mittens you can wear while using touch screens, then I highly recommend these mittens for you. Heck, even People Magazine gave them a shout out in this week’s issue!

Knit Outta the box also sent the Earbud Cozy & Pouch Knitting Kit, which retail for $22-$25. This knitting kit is the perfect solution to the frustrating problem of tangled earbuds, and as an added bonus, the kit comes with a knitting pattern for a pouch to keep the earbuds safely stowed when not in use. I plan on donating this knitting kit to a local charity I volunteer with, as they help sick children, and they are looking for donated holiday gifts that are also crafts. I figure a sick teenager or tween would love to knit an earbud cozy, and then once they are finished, they can use their cozy while they listen to music at home or while receiving medical treatments.

If you enjoy handmade quality items, why not invest in Knit Outta The Box products? Their hand-knit products are very affordable, and well worth the investment. Visit the Knit Outta The Box website to purchase a knitting kit, knit pattern, or yarn now.
