5 Book Giveaway and Book Blogging Injury Rant

I’ve been meaning to write this post for weeks, and I’m so excited that I’m finally getting around to it today. You may have noticed that I’ve been slacking a bit on the blog for the past few weeks, but only because I’ve got a bad case of some funky kind of Tendinitis in my hand, wrist and arm. (It rhymes with Aquarius.) I’m guessing carrying around heavy books all week in New York had something to do with it, but who knows. If you’ve never been blessed with that condition, doing things like typing, holding a book or the remote for my tv, brushing my hair, putting on a bra, or even answering my cell phone has become unbearable. I’ve actually went back on NSAIDS to deal with the pain, even though with my circulation issues the medicine could actually kill me. (Good times, right? No worries, because I don’t think that will happen.) The first EMG showed I had severe Carpal Tunnel syndrome, but after my doctor repeated the EMG, my condition was down graded, thankfully. Actually, I’m getting physical therapy for both my hand and Achilles Tendinitis right now, so I’m just not able keep up with my reading, blogging, and all the other things I do when I’m not blogging.

I’ve got so many books on my shelves that almost every shelf on 2 bookcases is holding 2 rows of books. I can’t give away books, or even donate them fast enough. Plus, to be completely honest, I’m a bit of a book hoarder, and getting rid of any precious book just about kills me. If you aren’t a long-time reader of my blog, you may not know I’ve been reviewing books for the past few years, and after attending BookExpo America for the past 2 years, hundreds of books have found their way into my heart and home. Sometimes ARC’s even just show up in my mailbox, books I’ve never requested and can’t ever possibly read. You would be surprised by how many books out of my genre just show up each month. I wish I had all the money in the world to be able to afford the shipping costs it would take to get rid of my extra books, but I’ve been either unemployed or under-employed for nearly 2 years now.

I decided that to help me combat with my growing book problem, I’d do a serious of giveaways, and I’m starting an all-Twitter giveaway which will continue until I hit 2,000 followers. If you aren’t on Twitter, it is pretty easy to set up an account. If you are a giveaway junkie, it is an excellent and easy way of finding about thousands of giveaways in one spot. If you don’t want to enter this particular Twitter giveaway, you can wait until the all-Facebook giveaway, but that could be months from now. I say why wait when a sure thing is right in your grasp? If you’d like to find out more about the list of possible books you could win, visit this BookExpo recap now.

Your life story always reminds me of the life Amy Whitehouse could have (but didn’t) live. I sort of see her as playing you as a grown up. Obviously she can’t now that she’s had that horrible thing happen to her…but still…I think you know I mean how tragic she always looked and seemed.
Your story is tragic, NG. It’s tragic in an American horror storyish way, and it doesn’t seem to get better. I seriously think you need to write a graphic novel of it and begin a series. I hope you don’t think I’m being facecious here. I’m dead serious. Having read your tellings and retellings and recent updates, I think you have something to say and sell. I just picture the Amy Whitehouse persona there…. Let’s not expose you entirely.

  57. Favorite (type of) genre in books? Hmmm Hard to say, but I do know that I’m dying to read “Inside.”
I also love fiction taking place in the 1940′s during or around WWII…not the Holocaust books, but books about English people’s lives at that time, for instance.
You know what looks good to me from your display? “Heart of Deception” and “Everything Beautiful Began After.” Those I would die to read. Really just love to read. I’ll pay for the shipping and handling on those 3 books anytime.
Do you really want to know all of this? You could find out more about me than you’d ever want to know just by asking such a question!

  58. Dear NG,
As a long time follower of yours, I have this last thing to say about books; I didn’t know you had all that stash and didn’t know how to disburse it because of a whistful lack of postage manageability. Please know that I am more than happy to fund such an endeavor in future. I would love to have your hand-me-downs anytime. You can always contact me at: thebookishdame@aol.com
Cheers and have a happy campaign for 2000 followers!!

I too am a bit of a hoarder and have trouble giving away books, but at a certain point you just run out of space. These days I’m reading a lot of mystery & some thriler/suspense titles, but my tastes vary greatly and I like literary fiction, non-fiction, actually anything that is pretty decently written is good by me. On the FB, Twitter, Goodreads etc. I am either DeathByBook or Heather MacKenzie or some combination of the two. Hope your Universe is shiny. H.E. MacKenzie
