It’s Little House On The Prairie week! To celebrate, I’m giving away 5 copies of Confessions Of A Prairie Bitch to 5 lucky readers!
Confessions Of A Prairie Bitch: How I Survived Nellie Oleson And Learned To Love Being Hated By Alison Arngrim is as delicious, pleasurable, and juicy as a memoir by television’s most hated childhood villain should be. People usually read “celebrity” memoirs for two reasons: either to find out that person’s secrets, or to find out the secrets that person has managed to keep about others. Well, Alison’s memoir goes way beyond and above both of those basic reasons. Not only did she play a beast of a bully on television, but she used what she learned from Nellie Oleson to help her deal with darkest secret with her own “bully.” Alison not only become a survivor, but she become a champion for other children getting abused. She managed to use her celebrity to get a claw passed in California, and for that, you have to stand up and applaud the woman. In Prairie Bitch, she has a lot to say about her former co-workers on Little House, but she also had a very interesting family, parents in the business, and plenty of famous folks that crossed her path. Ms. Arngrim writes her phenomenal story with grace, humility, and humor. She is so down to earth, it is as if you were reading a memoir that could have been written by someone who never spent a second in front of a camera. To put it in perspective, I’m more of a diva than Alison Arngrim is, and that’s pretty hilarious, since I’m an under-employed (Part Time) writer working in the non-profit agency who doesn’t even own a car. (Yep, that’s right, I finally got a new job, and I started today!) That’s probably what I liked best about Alison’s memoir – she’s just so damn grateful for everything she’s ever received in her life. That’s the way we all should be, and I appreciate how genuine she is, especially since this is a trait you normally don’t find anymore in people, let alone famous “celebrity” people. Obviously, I’m now one of her biggest fans, and I hope you will be, too after you read her book.
Here is a shocker – I forgot about how much I loved Little House. I’m not saying I forgot about the books, or the actors, what I’m saying is I actually forgot about what I saw on television. After reading all three of the girl’s memoirs, and after watching a lot of YouTube videos, I realized much of what I knew about the show has been blocked out of my memory. I had a terrible childhood, and I can’t remember a lot of things before high school. I’ve got some journals, but I didn’t really write about tv shows. I’ve blocked out a lot of memories in my life, and the only way I can remember things is if I’ve managed to hold on to a photo or an image that can trigger my memories. Sometimes I have friends who can remind me about things that happened, but when it comes to Little House, that was a show I watched with my mother. All I know is that was one of two things we bonded on. My mother and I had The Beatles, and we had Little House. Since I don’t own the DVD’s, I’ve managed to forget how much I enjoyed watching Alison Arngrim played a scheming, lying, manipulative bitch for seven years on my favorite tv show. I even forgot about that great scene where Laura throws Nellie into the mud. I don’t know how this is possibly, but I did. So, reading Prairie Bitch not only was like reliving the past for me, it was basically filling in a lot of blanks as well.
In Confessions of a Prairie Bitch, Alison really let us know what life was like for her growing up in Hollywood. It seemed like a fairy tale, as she lived in a castle known as the Chateau Marmont, and she was a famous television star. But, she didn’t have a “normal” life at home. Alison had a gay father who was more or less happily married to her mother. Her father was Thor Arngrim, who was a talent manager to Liberace. Alison’s mother was voice actress Norma MacMillan, who played both Gumby and Casper the Friendly Ghost. I loved hearing how her mom would come to school and do her Underdog voice for her classmates – her mother played Sweet Polly Purebread, Underdog’s girlfriend. Alison’s brother Stefan was even in the business, he was a teen idol and featured in everything from Tiger Beat, 16, and Teen Beat. He wasn’t exactly what you’d call dreamy – he ended up raping and beating up Alison for years, without anyone finding out about it. Alison shares her personal struggle to survive years of depression and shyness.
There are plenty of fun Little House stories, and I don’t want to spoil any of them here. Alison really gets into what it was like working on the set, not just your typical “And, we shot this scene and then went to a party.” She doesn’t take for granted that most people have no idea what a film or television set looks like, or what it takes to get a few seconds on film, so it is so much fun hearing what went into each take, and learning how she did her work as an actor on the set. You get to hear plenty of Little House adventures off the Prairie, too. I had no idea she was so close to her TV husband Percival, played by Steve Tracy. He was her best friend, and his young death from AIDS inspired her into a life of activism, which I love, as I am a proud activist myself.
Probably the best part of this book (although juicy Little House gossip really did tickle my fancy) is how Nellie Oleson taught Alison to become more like the character she played on tv, and less shy and traumatized. Not only in her home life, but in her school and person life off set. If she didn’t have Nellie, who knows where she would have ended up. If you have ever watched Little House on the Prairie, you have to read this book. If you are a fan of memoirs, you need to read this book. If you are a fan of books, then you need to read this book. If you’ve never read one book in your entire life, and someone put a gun to your head and asked you to read one or else, then you’d better read this book. It is so good, and so much more than you’d expect it to be. Just watch the video, you’ll see what I mean.

I loved watching this show as a kid. It was an incredibly wholesome show with different challenges and I still remember when Mary became blind. That really shook my world. Laura was the tomboy who became a well rounded woman to stand up for woman’s right against the stereotypes of her time.
I think I have an original Scholastic Ingalls book in my boxes somewhere.
Great review and good luck to all the contestants for the giveaway.
I grew up watching the show as a kid of the 70′s. I would love to read CONFESSIONS OF A PRAIRE BITCH, but right now I have to use the money to pay bills. I would to win a copy of the book. When I catch the show in sydication now, I get memories of when I watched it as a kid. I had a difficult childhood and I remember the show and it helped me alot in dealing with tramatized things going on in my childhood that included being bullied by a kid and etc. I won’t get into details… I do remember how much the show meant to me and how I hated the character of Nellie, but then again I was one of those that ended up liking her too, because I would see how her mother was (the character) and understood why Nellie was that way. I would like to thank Allison and the others for making my childhood bearable to deal with. Thank you Allison.
Sharon
Nannie – I hear you on paying bills … and the traumatic childhood.
PK – Thanks! Sadly, when I eloped with my husband (We have a small condo!) I had to get rid of a lot of my stuff, and I donated all of my books from my childhood, including all of the LHOTP books. I cry every time I think about it, as I loved those books, and I’d die to have them back in my hands again. You should dig those books up and show them some TLC.
Holy smokes that picture of you next to the Ingalls made me do a double take…. Hmmm does Pa know that you were hiding the 4th Ingall girl?
Nice pics.
PK Reeves – If only I had been discovered in LA. I was there in the summer of 1973, running around Hollywood with my crazy mamma. Sigh.
Oh, thanks, I love my kindergarten picture, and I’m not ashamed to say it. I ADORED those girls and that show.
Botox and Green Apple Martini! That was fantastic—she really is so personable and funny. I love that she is the chairperson for National Protect, that is just fantastic
I actually already bought the book but wanted to say how fantastic it is that you are spotlighting it
Felicia – I am in awe of her, she’s just great all-around! Thanks for letting me know you like how I’m trying to show her love.
I learned that we hate many of the same things. I agree with everything on her “Stuff that makes Alison gag” list except for red meat, I love a good burger from the Barbecue.
Edmontonjb – I couldn’t live my life without cheeseburgers!
I’m following you on twitter as edmontonjb
I watched the video and she is SO FUNNY !! I have just become a follower of hers on Facebook and I have read her blog. She is sooooo busy ! I am also a follower of Girl from the Ghetto and would lovve to win this book.
Lori – Thanks for following, and yes, she is funny!
i had no idea she was a stand up comedian, im going to have to check that out for sure.
i also just watched the video and HOLY crap she’s funny, it reinforces my surprise that she is a comedian haha.
also started following her on twitter!
i also follow you on twitter and you’re in my google reader, as you probably know by now due to me entering your other giveaways :p
I can’t say I have lost someone to aids or anything as traumatizing as that, but i think by now you know my obsession with memoirs (augusten got me hooked) and this sort of reminds me of the concept of Maureen McCormick’s memoir (marcia brady) and I loved that one, so I’d love to read this one as well.
Ginger Mandy – I did not know/remember “Marsha” had a memoir. Great, one more on my list. I love memoirs, and hope mine, whenever it gets finished, will be half as good as Alison’s. Thanks for the tweet, too.
http://twitter.com/GingerMandy/status/17380896785
and of course you had to know iw as going to tweet about it to all my other bookworm blogger buds
I’d love to enter the contest but my copy of the book has already shipped via amazon and I eagerly await its arrival!
(After I failed to win the free autographed copy from @biggayicecream I had to order it, though I am proud to say that I got an honourable mention and that I did get a tweet from Alison when I asked if I was one of the 3 final entries she was considering choosing).
And yeah – big LHOTP fan here too… my late parents also loved it.
P.S. I hadn’t seen your blog before but you seem interesting so I’m glad I came by :>
Cara-Mae – Oh, I’m glad you stopped by, too. I love hearing you got a tweet from Alison herself, very cool and a great consolation prize.

I need this book because when I was a little girl I was just like her. Shes the only reason Im obsessed with LHOTP. I used to go to bluegrass festivals and dress up like her. I could even do my hair like hers all by myself. No wig. It was fun to become her when I went to these events.
I watch the show religiously just because of her. I was a blonde brat too when I was a kid. Spoiled too. She made me embrace that
Sharaya – I love hearing your OBSESSED! Awesome.
That video is priceless…her “Nellie” facial expressions are all her own for sure! She should do stand up comedy.
I follow your blog
Traci – Thanks for following!
Hey! She has a movie on Netflix–Make the Yuletide Gay–I am so putting that on my queue!
I learned Alison currently lives in the wilds of Tujunga with her husband. I would have never guessed that!

I would love to read this book—please enter me to win!
Actually, Nellie was always my favorite…..the other girls were too goody-goody for me!
I read all the books and watched all the episodes. My dad actually proposed to my mom during an episode.. I also had no idea that her hair was a wig!

I would love a chance to win this book!
I need to win this book because I LOVE Little House. It drives my family nuts that I can still sit down and watch episodes one after another. My dvr doesn’t miss an episode!
I learned from her website that she is a big supporter of AIDS programs.
I learned from her website that Almanzo has a cabaret act now and that I’d never recognize him now even if he introduced himself.
I follow her on Facebook and Twitter.
I follow you on Facebook and Twitter.
My Mom used to watch Little House on the prairie and when it went into reruns she kept watching it. Eventually I started watching it AND reading the books. The first part of my email address is still Little House related – for Laura Elizabeth Ingalls Wilder.

Ahh! I’ve been dying to read this one. Thanks for the chance

I hated this show but it might be interesting to read.
Teena – WHAAAT? Hated the show. Agghh …
I first logged onto Allison’s website in 1995, when I first got the internet. On it I learned that she reads and responds to her fan emails promptly. She was the first celebrity to send me an email!
Jen – That is so cool, seriously!
Thanks! I still DVR episodes now, mostly to look at the set decor. I also track details because I plan on creating another LHOTP game.
Wow, I so want to read this book!
My favorite part of your video on this website was when you came out in the wheelchair and wig. I love Nellie!
I am a loyal follower on Facebook AND Twitter (@Jen_Edgar) and on Allison’s personal website before that!
I need to win this book. I watched LHOTP every day after school in the 80s. I had an aunt that passed away from breast cancer who shared an obsession for this show with me. We both knew the titles and stories behind every episode. She recorded episodes from TBS in the 90s. All the episodes were recorded onto VHS in chronological order, which was time consuming because TBS showed them out of order at times. She created computer-generated labels for each cassette with a font resembling the show’s LHOTP cursive logo. Her home-made LHOTP video collection was proudly displayed on nice book shelves, prominently in her living room. She created a LHOTP episode guide in a binder including chronological episode titles, synopses, original air dates, etc. At the end of the guide she included the same information about Highway To Heaven. My Aunt Sharon died 11 years ago leaving behind three daughters and a son. I always felt that I should have her video collection, but never spoke up to inherit it as it was not my place as just a niece. A few years ago, my mother told me that my uncle had cleaned out some of Sharon’s stuff and had given these tapes to her. My mom asked me if I wanted them because they were bulky. I then inherited my Aunt Sharon’s LHOTP collection. Also in the boxes were her beloved EPISODE GUIDE!
Jen – I’m so glad you got the collection, and have something very powerful and meaningful to remember your aunt by.
One last thing I’d like to add before I submit my contest link comment: I would challenge anyone to a LHOTP episode trivia contest. I can turn down the volume and recite the dialogue. I can usually name the episode before the title appears by its guest star names or tell you which season it is by its intro theme version.
Jen – Oooh, how fun! I honestly admire a person who can quote pop culture like that. How fun! Oh, thanks for the Facebook shout-out, too.
This link is me sharing the contest information on Facebook. My profile is set to private, but Allison can access it as we are ‘friends’. http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=lf#!/profile.php?id=564399494
Here is the FB link again. http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=lf#!/profile.php?id=564399494
Here I am Tweeting the contest: http://twitter.com/Jen_Edgar
Jen – Thanks for the tweet!
Thanks for letting me know about the giveaway! I learned that she hates plastic surgery, piercings and tattoos. Ok I know that’s 3 things, but still.
I am entering because I lived for Little House. I could post my own picture with my hair in braids just like Laura. I just finished Melissa Gilbert’s memoir and am really looking forward to Alison’s.
Nancy -Isn’t it funny how we all loved that show, and dressed like them?
Thanks for the head’s up on Goodreads!
I loved Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books and grew up watching LHOTP. I’m the same age as Melissa Gilbert, so I really identified with her portrayal of Laura. When I noticed via Goodreads that 3 of the girls were releasing bios at about the same time, I quickly added them to my shelf.
It would be swell to win a copy of Alison’s book, since I’ve only had the chance to read Melissa Gilbert’s book so far.
Colleen – I’m reviewing all three books this week (or, more towards the weekend) so feel free to come back to read those reviews. You are going to love this book, trust me!
I really enjoyed perusing Alison Arngrim’s website, but I literally LOL’d at the “Don’t Mess with Nellie” game. Too funny! =D
I’ve befriended Alison on Goodreads, Twitter and Facebook.
BTW, your FB link goes to her page which is maxed on friends, you might want to adjust your link to the fanpage since that is one that we late-comers can join.
Colleen – Thanks for the heads up. That is a Facebook thing, I can’t change it, and I hate when that happens to “big celebrities.” It just goes to show you Alison is white hot right now. And, her book is #35 on the NY Times Best Sellers List, which is just great for her!
What’s not to love about the video? It’s a scream. However, without spoiling the moment for others, I’ll point out her last comment dressed in character while sitting in the antique wheelchair as being nothing short of awesome (and so true!)!
Tweeted a link to this page via Twitter (as @MizBehavin1).
Coleen – I always love a Tweet, thank you!
I’d love to read this book, she’s another one of the ” I wonder what happened to…” people.
I loved LHOTP when I was a kid! I have read all the books many times, and read them to my son, too, when he was still small enough to not have a say in things. I even grew up to study History in college, with a focus on women on the frontier, and did an independent study where I lived like a frontier woman for 10 days at a re-enactment. I’d made all my own clothes, cooked over the open fire, learned to fire muzzle-loaders and everything! I once got to shake Merlin Olsen’s hand at a pro football game, too, which was exciting.
Cat – I think it is so kick-ass that you lived like a frontier woman, and studied history in college. Very cool.
+1 I’m an email follower.
+1 I need to win this book because I was and still am a fan of LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE. I especially looked forward to the episodes with the Olsens. I also have read some of the LITTLE HOUSE books.
Mona – thank you for following!
I totally grew up on LIttle House on the Praire! We have the books, and our family FAITHFULLY watched every episode. I don’t think I can really describe the impact that LHOTP had on us! It was an important part of growing up! We faithfully tuned in to find out what nasty things Nellie and Mrs. Olson was going to do next! I LOVED the whole part where Laura and Nellie fall in love and marry….I don’t think there is anything about LHOTP that wasn’t fabulous.
I saw this book and immediately added it to my list. How could I NOT tear in to this book and read all about the behind the scenes?
Growing up in the 70s I don’t know of any girl who was not influenced by Laura, Nellie, etc. and how they taught us how to maneouver the “mean girls” at school.
I NEED to read this book! It’s as simple as that.
I watched the video, but also read the small excerpt about how there was only ONE time she went out in costume as Nellie and with her TV Mom dressed in character. The abuse they received is incredible. Seriously! Look at the sheer power TV had on their lives, and yes, to hear her say that people have called her a bitch since she was 11 years old – imagine what that does to you, your personality, how it shapes you as a person? What incredible strength she has. That and demonstrates the power TV has – this was only a character she played, and yet so many truly believed she was real, this was Nellie…but it takes an incredible amount of talent to perform this character with such greatness though don’t you think????
P.S. Your blog is AMAZING!!! I will sign myself up as a follower! Thanks for leaving me a message about the book contest! Appreciate it very much!!
Penny – I love how Alison is funny in real life, a great writer, and a talented actress. I am so excited to be able to have 5 people win this book, because I am praying she comes back into our lives on a more regular basis. Her book is like #35 on the NY Times List! And, I betcha it’s going to keep rising!
Also, thanks for telling me I’m AMAZING. My head is swelling as I write this.
I’m dying to read it!! Please enter me in your give-away!!!
Oh what fun and memories this all brings back. I love Alison Arngrim and really want to read this book. I remember thinking of how much credit that girl deserved whenever I watched LHOP because it takes guts to be the bad guy when everyone loves the main character so much. In the video you posted here, my favorite part is when Alison comes out dressed as Nellie in the wheelchair and says how anyone can be liked but it takes talent to scare the sh*t out of people. It shows how down to earth she is while at the same time reminds us that it does take nerve to be different. Love her! Great post, great contest!
Teeni – I had a ball reading all the prairie girl’s memoirs, but Alison’s was the best. You will love it! I’m so glad you feel exactly the same way about her and that video as I do. And, of course, thanks for the compliment!
And, my goodness, those skirts lol!
Oh yeah, remember when prairie skirts were in style? LOL!
What a great idea! I have no doubt this will be an awesome book!
About the first question – I have to say, even though it’s not “fascinating” in the average sense, the most notable thing for me is how much she resembles her father. That’s personal because I’m always amazed at such striking resemblances…
Is there a fan page on FaceBook by any chance? Her personal page has too many friends (I think the limit is 5,000 on personals and no limit on fan pages) but I would love to follow her and I don’t do Twitter or MySpace. lol
Okay! I’m now following YOUR blog and requested YOU on FaceBook and GR! (Thanks by the way!)
just wanted to comment so I can make sure to click to notify me..
My reasons for “needing” this book (and it IS needing – all my to-read books are!) are that I absolutely adore memoirs and was ALWAYS watching Little House when I was younger. I’ve watched it with my daughter since she’s been a little older and have such great memories of that alone!
I’m not sure how to send you a link that I shared this but I shared it directly from here and here is the link to my FaceBook page which shows the post if that’s the right way.
http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=1462478076
Count me in, I’m a huge Little House fan and need to win this book because I love her, loved the show, and love memoirs.
Thanks a lot – that’s awesome! I’d still love to friend her if she makes a fan page. I think that’s what she’d have to do. I don’t know this for sure but it just happened to my local radio station and they talked about it on the air. A personal page can have up to 5,000 friends and after that no more (for some weird reason). But a fan page or group page can have an unlimited amount from what I’ve heard. So, my local station made another page and started just adding people over there.
I’ll have to keep my eye on that in case there is a fan page in the future. Thanks for the entries!
Anytime Eva! Check out her Twitter page, as you can read it even if you aren’t on Twitter.
What I liked best about the video…. besides her apparent honesty, is her voice. It reminds me of when I was little, when she played Nellie.
Only slightly different it’s actually amazing how similiar it is to when she was young.
Well, I follow YOU everywhere I can legally and without appearing stalkerish. Facebook, blog, and twitter. Did I miss anything?
And I need to win this book just because I LOVE the title of it.
In another life, I was a prairie bitch, Im certain of it.
Vinyl V- Ha ha, I think you covered it all. Everything about this book is wonderful.
I love that you think you were a prairie bitch in another life. You kill me!
Little House on the Prairie was always my favourite TV show while I was growing up and I still love watching re-runs! I would love to be entered in your draw. Thanks so much!
I learned that Nellie is on MySpace, Facebook and Twitter!
What I loved best about the video was Alison’s incredible sense of humour and her beautiful bright eyes!
I follow Alison on both Facebook and Twitter.
Oops! I “tried” to follow Alison on Facebook but got a response that she already has too many friends. I am, however, following her on Twitter.
I am following you on Twitter. I subscribe to your RSS feed via Google Reader. I just requested to be a friend on Facebook.
I really need to win this book because Alison’s character was one of the best on Little House on the Prairie and always generated more conversation in our family than anyone else. Her character still fascinates me!
I tweeted!
http://twitter.com/beefbroth/status/17579445200
Wanda – Thanks for the tweet and following me. I am sorry to hear about her Facebook account being maxed out, but I will still count that as an entry for you. Not your fault!
Wow! I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many comments on a WordPress blog entry! The authors who send you their novels are really lucky to have such a dilligent and thoughtful champion of their works. You are really doing a great service, not only to your readers, but to these authors as well.
And CONGRATS on your new job! I literally cheered when I read that! You deserve it! And you get to write and take photographs too? I can’t think of a person more qualified for such a position. If your employers are smart, they will hire you on full time, before you know it.
As for this novel, I’m embarrassed to admit I’ve never watched Little House on the Prairie (blushes). But based on your review, this looks like a great novel. I’ll definitely check it out!
Congratulations again on all your successes! It couldn’t have happened to a nicer blogger.
KJewls – Oh, you’ve now made me blush. Thank you for the many compliments and good thoughts about my new job. Yes, I love my job and if I could share all the details (You know how I fear stalkers!) I would. I will say I’m lucky enough to work for one of the top companies in the US, let alone get paid to do creative work.
I love trying to help spread the word on good books and good authors. And, writing book reviews helped me land my current job, so I can certainly say I’ve gotten much more from reviewing books than I had hoped.
Not trying to be braggy here, but if you think this post has a lot of comments, (which, it does, but it goes to show us how many people love Little House and great memoirs) you have to check out my old Jon & Kate blog posts. Some had over 400 comments before I shut them down. (I reopened them because people begged me to, but I so over the great Kate Gosselin debate.)
No need to enter me, as I own this book, but I can tell you that I highly recommend it. Out of all three recent cast memoirs, this is the best one. It’s funny and it has a great conversational style that makes you think you’re sitting in the audience at one of Alison’s stand up routines.
I loved it!
Cheryl – I feel the same way, too! That is why I wrote this review first and asked to give away this LH memoir.
Thanks for mentioning this on goodreads! I actually found about the book from lurking through your read list. Alison Arngrim is funny! She would have to be.
My favrite part of the video was her being cornered at the punch bowl by Grizzly Adams:)
I had a difficult childhood too and was diagnosed with having post traumatic stress disorder as a consequence. I have lingering memory blanks as well, which might be for the best.
You have a great blog!
Melody – I’m glad you found the book via lurking, lol, but then I invited you. That makes me giggle somehow. Also, thanks for complimenting my blog.
I feel terrible hearing you have PTSD. I had it, too, and thought it was gone until I read Denial: A Memoir of Terror. The author is a terrorism expert, was raped as a teen, and found out she still had PTSD decades later. She should have been aware of it due to her education, but wasn’t, as I wasn’t aware it was still with me, deep down. I know that feeling and it isn’t a good one.
I am so sorry you had a bad childhood. I think you are going to LOVE Alison’s book. Even if you don’t win it, read it. And, you may want to look into Denial. I have a review of it here on the blog, if you are interested.
What a great turnout!
Go Little house in Prairies!
Have a blast with the giveaway and Ingalls #4 I could have sworn that was you behind the shed at school…
Darn stop dragging in the mud! I so am not going to mop it up!
OK here are my answers… Regarding Alison’s website. I LOVED it when The Rock said he had a crush on her and she looked like she needed to be spanked. I love it!!
Point #2
Observation of her video… Totally funny and it was so funny when she said she has been called a bitch to her face since she was 11. Can you imagine??!!
Point #3
I am a loyal follower thru your website, you know I am, lol!!
Donna – As always, thanks for the follow!
Point #4
Why should or win?
I am a fan of the show like many other people. I would love to read the book and would like something nice to happen and I need a good laugh, so there it is.
I learned that Alisons Aunt Marion watched her on the set since her parents worked alot.

It was a wig!
Alison will be at the Mall of America in July for a book signing.
I loved little house – LOVED IT! I went to the website and had no idea until that moment that Nelly’s hair was a wig!

Bookjourney – Thanks for following me.!
I’ll probably read this one.
Teena – It’s a goodie, you need to.
I have read every book in the Little House series and I would love to win this one.
I went to her website and the fascinating thing I learned actually had nothing to do with her! I caught a glimpse of Dean Butler . . . I haven’t seen him in person since about 1975. I did theatre productions with him when he was a student at UOP in Stockton. He came over to San Joaquin Delta College and was in a couple of our shows. I remember when we were so excited for him because he got a Mervyn’s commercial & we all saw him on tv!! Then, of course, “Little House,” but nobody seemed to know what happened to him after that.
I invite you to stop by Colloquium and check out yesterday’s Book Review Blog Carnival, as well as the guest post by Claire Cook that is featured today!

I found a picture of my Aunt Sharon with her beloved Little House tapes in her living room. It’s on my Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/photo.php?pid=4636935&id=564399494&fbid=408539414494
Jen – That is so sweet!
I’ve watched Little House for years. It was one of the few shows that my mom loved when she was little, and I loved as well. I think, in a way, it started my life-long love for American history; the way they brought the culture of the time to life was so real. I’ve seen (almost) every episode.
Plus, I just love memoirs.
I’ve been on Alison’s website before. When I heard that this book was coming out, I started scouring her website for details. I think my favorite bit was where she describes her crush on the various crew/cast members on the Little House set. That, and the little galloping horse gif at the bottom of every page.
I put a link to your giveaway in the sidebar of my blog here: http://thegirlfromtheghetto.wordpress.com/2010/06/29/confessions-of-a-prairie-bitch-alison-arngrim/. I’m not sure if that counts as an entry, but I wanted to do it anyway. :p
Dangit. Wrong link! :p Obviously. Here’s the right link: http://www.dailymonocle.blogspot.com (scroll down; it’s on the left side)
JP – Of course it counted, and thank you so much for giving this contest a shout-out!
Oh crap! Just noticed on Twitter that it’s my last day to comment & win!
I went to Alison’s website and noticed her big boobs in her leopard print dress.
I follow you on twitter and FB.
Please throw my name in the hat. Thanks!
Jean – OMG, you and your boob comment about killed me, lol! I love you!
I learned from her website that Alison will be in France for Bastille Day (that lucky bitch!). She’s going to a music festival.
Lisa
I watched the video of Alison. She’s very funny talking about the fact that she’s never had sex with a celebrity. The only celebs that ever hit on her were the creepy ones!

Ghetto Girl, I follow you on Twitter and Facebook. I also read your blog.
Hey Ghetto Girl, I’m really hoping to win this book. I watched LHOTP EVERY week as I was growing up. I also read all the books and still have the box set at my parents house. And most of all, I just LOVED to HATE Nellie Olsen and her mother! (was also just a little bit scared of them). So send me a copy, please!
I just re-tweeted your post on Twitter with the link to this blog.
I’ve tried twice now to post a comment telling you why I need to win this book. They aren’t showing up here for me to see. I hope that you got them.
I really want/need to win a copy of this memoir! I watched LHOTP every week with my mother. And just about anytime I saw a rerun on the tv. I read all of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books. I’ve still got the box set of them at my parents house!
I Loved to Hate Nellie and her mother. I was probably a little bit scared of them, too! She was great to watch, and not so predictable like Laura and Mary. I haven’t thought about that show in along time. Your book reviews this week have brought back so many memories of childhood! Thanks for that, Ghetto Girl!
Lisa-Ch – Sometimes stuff goes into the spam folders, for reasons unknown. I am happy to have brought back the childhood memories, and thank you for tweeting my contest and sharing it on Facebook.
I just discovered that this book existed a few days ago, and it’s already on my wish list. I was so excited to see a giveaway for it!
