Eloise Hawking kills her own son, Daniel Faraday on Lost

At first, I had titled this story Charles Widmore is Daniel Faraday’s father, but when young Ellie, otherwise known as Daniel’s mother, Eloise Hawking, pulled out her gun and shot her son dead I knew that was the bigger reveal on tonights fantastic episode of LOST.

First, Americans need to thank President Obama for keeping his speech short.  I wonder if he watches LOST himself?  Because he even left enough time for himself to dash off and watch the show.

This episode was crazy.  We see a young Daniel, playing paino with his mother Eloise, off Island.  She asks young Daniel the fateful question ”DANIEL, DO YOU KNOW WHAT DESTINY MEANS?”

Interestingly enough, when he knew that metronome had 864 beats, it was a subtle hint that Daniel himself was a time keeper, just like the metronome.  Daniel answered his mother “I can make time” and his mother answers him “If only you could.”  And, there was our forshadowing for the night.

R.I.P. Daniel Faraday.  You will be missed.  I did notice that you died and your constant Desmond lived.  Did you change time somehow that way?  Did you get your boyhood wish to make time?  I know you said you spend too much time on the constants, and not enough on the variables.  You forgot to listen to your own advice with your mother as the most important variable of them all, but we will accept that LOST will never explain why you being Desmond’s constant was important tonight.  But will you on the last episode of LOST?  I hope so… Let’s leave this with Daniel’s last words to a Lostie ”Any one of us can die Jack.”  I wonder if in the end, Jack dies?  Wouldn’t that be the shit?daniel

Back to the rest of LOST.  We learn everything from how the Hatch was built, to the fence code 141717, to the reason why they crashed (Desmond didn’t push the button to control the contamination gas, so Flight 815 crashed on the island) to Dr. Chang knowing his son was Miles.  We learn how baby Miles and little girl Charlotte are going to make it off of the island, and even how the mysterious red head off island who was disabled was Daniel’s research assistant and girlfriend.  We’ve seen this scene before, when Daniel is in the fottage, releases the energy.

I think the rest of the season will be the last six hours on The Island.  Will Jack just go back to the beach, or will he somehow convince The Others to let Dharma live?  I loved the cool gun fight at the motor pool.  But even more fun was the one liners this show always delivers.  Tell me who said them and you get the gold star.

  • You don’t belong
  • I’m from the future
  • Helping HG Wells talk to his mommy
  • I belonged here just fine until you showed up
  • We’re old friends
  • Like, Fonzie times?

Will the Oceanic 6 decide to change time and never crash, or are their relationships and bonds to the Island more important to them and they will sacrifice their loved ones happiness and all who have died on the Island’s lives (Like Charlie!)  Thus, will the Losties go native, just like The Others once did themselves?  Interesting to think about...

  1. Do you really think he’s dead?
i dunno, they have a way of killing folks and bringing them back, or not really killing them in the first place..i dunno..but i can’t wait to find out.
    Oh and

    Daniel
    Daniel
    Sawyer
    Sawyer
    Charles Widmore
    Hurley

  2. My guess is the next episode will be about the Locke/Ben/Sun side of the story, with the final few scenes showing the Jack/Kate/Richard side…

  3. The scene when Eloise tells Daniel that he would make her proud if he went back was touching. This was definitely the hardest kick in the ar… urm.. well y’know. Anyway the last bit of the episode was sad… I almost cried… sniff!

Anyway… I don’t think that this is the last season on the island. I think this is only “the beginning of the end” and, anyway Jack and Kate are both still hiding in the bushes!

And I also think that Jack chooses to join/aid the Others… Because, if you read wikipedia’s “The Incident” summary, it sys that:-

“Jack Shephard’s (Matthew Fox) decision to put a plan in action in order to set things right on the island is met with some strong resistance by those close to him”

This plan may refer to Daniel’s plan and therefore lead to the complete and absolute screwing up of the survivors, when his plan fails and the incident occurs anyway.

I think the Incident leads to the maternity problem in the Island too!

And I too think that Jack would die during the finale of season six… because it is his destiny, to save the island… at any cost.

Jack and Locke are like reflections of the same object in two different mirrors. Locke is the scarred and battered mirror while Jack is the not so battered but the one that is scarred nonetheless, he has nothing to go back to, just like Locke, The two only reasonable ways for Jack to exist are :-
    1) He lives on in the Island
    2) He dies, saving/trying to save his friends.

We have to face the facts, Jack was originally meant to die halfway through the PILOT episode. The monster was supposed to get him when he saves charlie and Kate runs into the trees. LOST writers have confirmed this. So whatever we say or do… Jack is going to die. The question is how?

If you liked my contribution please email me. I would love someone to help me out with my Facebook LOST musings, and I would love to contribute cuz like it or not, your blog rocks!

If not… like a wise Desmond Hume once said while conversing with a broken-ankled Jack amidst hundreds of stadium seats… See you in another life brother… or is it sister?

  4. I bet Obama does watch Lost, he’s cool like that. Michelle probably watches too. He probably spends half the cabinet meeting the next morning discussing it.

That’s cool they reveal how the hatch is built but didn’t we already find out it was Desmond who caused the plane crash? Or did they just reveal more about it?

  5. Great recap Girl.

I believe is the reason why Eloise told young Daniel to only focus on science(physics) is because she wants him to go back and change time. Young Eloise probably knew that she was the one who killed Daniel all along and that’s why she needs him to learn about time travel. She is trying to have Dan to stop her mistake. So I think that is it just time repeating itself in hoping that Eloise does not kill her own son and thats why she was so focused on him learning everything he could about time travel and the reason why Charles gave money to his research. I believe Eloise was shocked that she shot her son. Dan is already born at this time anyway and she probably went back to where young Dan was(playing piano) and that was when she explained his need for learning more about science etc. JMO.

  7. Top Posts of the Day – OMG, fellow wordpress peeps, for once, you liked one of my LOST recaps. It was written very quick and hasty, lacking pictures and my normal research, because I was exhausted, in bed and laying a few feet away from Mayo Clinic. I am thrilled beyond belief.

Saya -When I looked at young Ellie’s eyes, they were black and cold. I didn’t think this way at all about the episode, but I can appreciate and contiplate your comment. I just can’t wait for the next episode. Gosh, this show is so good.

Jen 512 – They did mention Desmond not pushing the button, thus causing the plane crash, but since not everyone is a total LOST nerd and can remember everything, I mentioned it as a question answered last night. Hell, I have a boy who commented under the 103 things about me and he asked me who Richard is. Not judging him, because at least he likes and watches the show. And I would die if Obama said he watched the show. I love learning trivial things about famous people.

Lost Addict Next Door – I loved what you had to say! I never heard about Jack supposedly dying through the pilot. I began watching during season two after my brother-in-law convinced us to watch. My blog is written by myself, but I have many people who email me tips and/or comment frequently all over the posts. I would love it if you stop by and comment all the time. I wonder if everyone is still alive as well…

  8. You’re right, explaining it again makes sense, there’s a lot of “Lostology” to remember.

Is this the final season of Lost? I’m still way behind, I occasionally catch episodes I haven’t seen on SciFi.

  9. Awesome episode! And it appears Daniel is shot by his own mother but im not sure he died. I watched very closely and it appears he is in grave danger for his life but I dont think he will die. In fact, I think Daniel will survive and I think he will be healed just like how young Ben Linus lived or maybe even Jack will surgically help him Im not sure but I dont believe he is dead yet. I loved how they pieced everything together. The other reason I believe Daniel will not die is because his mother and Widamore wanted him to return to the island to fix his memory and I think the island will do that when he is healed. I have to say Daniel has become one of my favorite characters and I’d give up Jack life for Daniel’s. In regards to the others allowing anyone to know the location of the bomb is highly unlikely since it appears the others always try to protect the island. I still want to know what lies in the shadow of the statutes!!!! I think I was also right in a past post that Daniel is attempting to change time and if he succeeds will be a question that runs through my head until its finally revealed to us. Looks also like your boy Sawyer is in a heap of trouble…how will he get himself out of this one???

  10. I personally liked:

“We disappeared off a plane in mid-air and ended up in 1977. I’m getting kind of used to insane.”

I put that one on Facebook.

I honestly think that because things are coming together now, nothing is terribly shocking. I wondered from the beginning of the ep who his father was and figured it was Widmore. The same with Miles and Dr. Chang. I think we have too much information for the little things to be such a shock anymore.

It’s still a hell of a ride. I literally do not know what I will do when this show ends. I try not to think about it.

  11. Explosive episode, my jaw nearly dropped when I saw Eloise shoot dan. Mind you the manner in which Dan entered the camp seemed somewhat dangerous, as said by Jack ” you need a gun to see your mommy” ? And what does lie under the shadow of the statue ? Lost keeps us hanging on because it doesn’t give many answers, every episode leads to more questions.
Nonetheless I loved every minute of it, and I now believe Jack,Kate and Sawyer will have the job of detonating the hydrogen bomb that will save the island and return them all to 2007. WHAT A PLOT!!!!! Love ya all!! UK RULES!!!!

  12. One last thing, it annoys me to think that we have mainly 5 episodes left in this series, and then we will have to wait til late January 2010 to see the final series. Six months is too long, I could be dead by then. I don’t wanna die before seeing the last series !!!!
