Did you spend hours back combing/teasing & spraying your hair with Aqua Net? Ever get a spiral perm? Did you ever take a yearbook picture and not quite all of you hair made it into the picture? How many of you out there had Mall Bangs? I DARE YOU to email me pictures of your awesome eighties hair styles. Or just have a laugh and share tips for the younger generations who strive for big 80s hair.
Yes, I’ve decided to start a group on Facebook called I HAD BIG 80s HAIR. You know you want to join, so please join and share your pictures. I want to profile the pictures here on my blog in a few weeks.

Ah, the 80s. A special time in my heart, where girls wore big, baggy fluorescent clothes and spent hours perfecting hair so stiff no boyfriend would dare to touch it. Even though I never technically had mall bangs, I sure knew how to do some big ass white girl hair. I’ve written a few other posts about my hair and fashions from the 80s, and if you want a good laugh, read them all.

Um, how many of you secretly wish big hair could stay forever? I kept my hair long for two years because I wanted to be ready for the 80s resergence. But now I can’t even round brush my hair because of my bad neck and shoulder. Sigh. I keep trying to buy those Bumpits I see on tv but my hairstylist Micky won’t let me. Damn him.

Funny .. I had big hair too, but i burned those pictures. Although, I’m certain my sister has one hiding, and ready to pull the minute i attain stardom!

Judging by the first picture, I think you win the award for “highest bang swoop” ever…amazing!

Romi – That picture was from Christmas Day, 1987 or 88. I can not believe that I got my hair that high AND got a photo of it.

Love this! I had 80s big hair. Not quite as big as yours though, how did you manage that? I always used Stiff Stuff. Do they still even make that??? I’ll have to dig around my Mom’s house to see what old photos I can dig up. So funny…

Shannon TX – My friend Debi has always called me The Hair Whisperer. Seriously. I had complete control of my hair my entire life. Its magic!!!

I grew up in the 90s so missed out on this. I used to make my hair big by “zapping” it, by braiding the whole head in tiny braids while it’s wet, let it dry over night and then when you take it out you look like you put your finger into a socket. It’s not very stylish, but I wish I had pictures.

Jen 512 – I never had my own camera until the end of high school. The moments I missed snapping because we were poor. Breaks my heart. I remember tiny braids. And, I assure you, in one of those other posts that i linked, I have 90s pictures with big hair. My big hair died in the mid 90s.

I remember wanting a perm so bad, but my parents would never let me!

I had big hair but we were too busy getting stoned to be taking pictures
My bff would be the only one who might still have any and she’s not sure where they would be.
so you are gonna have to trust me. That first picture up there of you…that’s how big my hair was. I still do the spikey big hair stuff now. Kind of a Joan Jett thing going on. But back then in my skinny days I had the long hair and would tease it up into a big ole stevie nicks mane and spray the hell out of it. I’m surprised I haven’t died of lung disease by now from all the hair product I have inhaled in my lifetime.

ROFL – Big 80’s Hair! OMG – Girls in my high school wouldn’t leave the house without half a can of Aqua Net in their hair and then they’d take the can with them to school to spray the rest on in the girls room. Of course, we also loved wearing the little lacy ankle socks with our high heels too, but that must be for another post. LOL.

OMG!! that is some big hair Girl. I had ‘little’ big hair, but no where near yours. I do remember the girls in school with a head of hair-spayed hair and I always wished I could get my hair like that. But I was a stoner in school and a smoker, so I would do my hair in the morning, but by the time I finished my cig across the street from the school before class, my hair would get ruined by the weather.
However, does anyone remember the pinned jeans at the ankle and socks over the jeans with loafers? Or the backward shirts? I remember wearing this in 6th grade. That is what I miss the most.

Jen 512 – i remember a bad spiral perm where I had a bald spot. Its a good thing they never let you.
Java J – Oh, I beleive you, not too many woman are brave enough to admit to that big hair. Ha ha ha…
Teeni – I never wore high heels until after college. I was too tall and had to hide it. But yes, I wore the lacy socks with my babydoll flats. no picturesd, din’t have a camera. Sigh.
Saya – I adored half shirts and the backwards sweater look. I may have one picture that I’ll lok for. And the pants, I either pegged them, or had my gramma sew them tight at the ankles. Never used pins!

Oh my gosh ….if I could stand my hair long I would so still have the mane. But I get mine cut short and spikey now and tease the hell out of it. I leave the house when it looks like I just rolled out of bed , ran a pick through it and used a can of instant freeze on it. That’s when I know I’m good to go.
I’m sure people sitting behind me in places can’t see around me or over me..hair is high on top and spread out like wings on the side and stiff as a board!
I LOVE it when people want to touch it and then their hand is stuck! I WARNED YOU!! YOU DIDN’T LISTEN!!!
