LOST EPISODE “JUGHEAD” … IS DANIEL FARADAY SUPPOSED TO BE THE JUGHEAD?

Sure, the “bomb” is a 1954 Jughead, but I’m thinking the writers were really talking about Charles Widmore and Daniel Faraday.  Which was the bigger bomb dropped tonight?  LOST was very interesting tonight.  I felt like I was getting closer to the truth, but nothing made sense while I was watching.  So I’ve got to work it out here.  If what I write doesn’t make sense to you, oh well.  Because I’m trying to work it all out on the blog rather than in my head.  Pretty quick we figured out that its the early 1950s on the island, and that Daniel Faraday is a “Jumper.”  But what is he after on that island?  Why does he care about the bomb so much?  Why does he recognize that female soldier?  Wait, do they have female soldiers back in the 1950s in the British Royal Army?   Because I’m guessing the soldiers become The Others that we love to hate in present day.  This is why The Others are wearing dirty torn up military style clothing and no shoes.  Because they have been stuck on that Island for all those years.  And what is all this talk about a hydrogen bomb that the Americans have come looking for?

Then it hit me, a little clue from the writers.  Remember when they mentioned Archie and Meathead? And the other dude says no, you mean Archie and Jughead and the first guy said, no, another Archie.  I’m thinking Daniel Faraday is Jughead, and Desmond and Charles Widmore are the Archie and Meathead.

Roll with me for a moment.  Who are Archie and Meathead?  Remember All in the Family, one of the best shows ever?  Remember the epic battle between father and son-in-law?  Were the producers using them as metaphors for Charles Widmore and Desmond?  Archie and Meathead grew a bit closer by the end of the show.  Will the same happen for Mr. Widmore and Desmond?  Tonight, after Desmond burst into his office, looking for Daniel’s mother, they have a moment … because they both love Penny and want what is best for her.

Who is the cartoon Jughead?  I remember him as an oddball with no luck with the ladies.  Daniel denied being a romeo to Ellie, the girl with the gun.  Jughead traveled with a Reggie (Asian ghost whisperer … aka Miles) and Veronica (Charlotte) and was extremely intelligent.  He also had a crush on Betty.  So, the love trio between Daniel and Charlotte and Ellie has its beginnings in this episode.  I think the girl in the vegetative state in the bed that Daniel abandoned is a time traveler who must have came from the island.  Is it Charlotte?  After all, her sister said that she said she was talking to her dad one day and saying something else weird the next.  So who is his Archie?  No other than his constant Desmond.

Remember when Daniel landed on the island and he said that rescuing them was not his primary objective?  Was he there to dismantle the bomb?  It was supposed to be a question to Ben … but is it because of radiation poisoning … or electromagnetism, or is it to save the island, or someone on it?  Don’t forget Ben used gas to kill the entire Dharma Initiative … and that Rousseau’s group died from a mystery sickness.  We know the Jughead bomb was leaking in 1954 on the island, but what state is in during present day 2007?

Here’s the real Jughead of tonight’s episode of LOST:

Ellie … that could be short for Eloise, right?  As in Ms. Eloise Hawking, the woman who could see the man in the red shoes death and who told Desmond that his destiny was The Island and who was also the woman with Ben in the flash forward.

Who is she?  Mother of Charlotte?  Mother or girlfriend to Daniel?  Love of Charles Widmore?

Also, does anyone remember that when Richard did come to visit John Locke as a child he placed that compass that John just gave to him tonight … and that John should have picked it, rather than the knife, and that is why Richard walked away from him that day?  I was so damn impressed that I remembered that moment.

And am I the only one to find it odd that Charlie and Charles Widmore both could be the namesake for Desmond and Penny’s son Charlie?

RIP Charlie Pace…

LOST, YOU DROPPED A BOMB ON ME BABY …

  1. *sigh* When they killed off Charlie I pretty much stopped watching. I was that pissed off. Haha, I used to be a Lost fanatic but now when I read your Lost blogs I have no idea what you’re talking about, it makes me laugh at myself.

I’ve been getting nostalgic again though because Sci Fi channel has been running reruns…I even got my husband a little hooked…mwahaha. Sooo…I’ve kinda been thinking about catching up with season 4 and 5 but I’m wary. I really hated season 3. The old secrets were so much better than the new secrets, if you know what I mean. Girl, do you think it’s worth it to catch up with it?

  2. You must also watch Life on Mars because the comment about Archie and Jughead was coincidentally (or not) from that show on right after Lost.

I wrote a list of my thoughts of the “Jughead” episode at http://connectwithyourteens.blogspot.com/2009/01/lost-recap-53-jughead.html
I’d love to know what you think.

  3. Due to nearly losing a finger last night, I missed this episode. I would have been distracted…I even didn’t read this post for fear of revealing something that I didn’t want to know…

I will come back and read this post AFTER I see the episode tonight! I could probably see the webcast now…but I need to be athome in the dark when I watch it…with no interruptions!

    ARRRRGGHHH!

  4. Is the female soldier his mother??? (fairaday)??? I love reading your insights, they are great!!!

  5. I think it is awesome that the others are actually learning about the time travel through the losties… Hilarious that Sawyer almost took out Widmore but destiny makes it impossible for him to have been able to kill him. Widmore was a bigger prick in his youth, I guess that goes without saying. Desmond is the man and we all know he is going back to that Island one way or other. He says he’ll never go back but when Daniel gave him that memory he was back on the island. I wonder how many times Desmond has been back in time I know at least three times but its probably alot more. Charlotte has got me thinking again about constants , how come she appears to need one now but no one else does? That episode also cleared up why Richard went to see Locke when he was young…and why he was so pissed when John didnt pick the compass. Now for the important question was the compass John’s or was it Richard’s maybe young John didn’t pick the compass because Richard gave it to him in the first place…hmmmm. Though it was really awesome when Richard says we pick are leaders young, I guess u do since John wasnt even born when he informed Richard he was their leader. I think once Charlotte dies that Daniel is going to get pissed and might even go find “jughead” and stop the island from hurting anyone else permenantly. It would be great to walk with Miles in the cementary dont u think….I love it when Daniel said did any (the dead soldier) tell you what year it was. Locke’s line was funny too, not where ive been but when ive been. I thought the girl in the bed looked like Charlotte. Obviously she was on the island when she was 3 and appears with her father unless Theris isn’t Charlotte. The lady told Desmond, Daniel left and never came back no shyt he’s on the island. I miss are LOST conversation but love posting on your blog. Right when the episode was over last night all I could think was more, more, more I NEED MORE ANSWERS!!!!

  6. Enjoyed the analysis. I agree that Eloise Hawking is Farady’s mother. I am also wondering if she is Charlotte’s mother as well. The problems Charlotte is now experiencing on the island could be due to the fact that she is in such close proximity to her mother in 1954, the young “Ellie” of the Others. Daniel could perhaps be immune to such things as he has experienced it before.

One small complaint…The “Archie/Jughead/Meathead” conversation actually occurred on the show “Life On Mars” which aired after “Lost” last night. I don’t think you should read too much into that, although it is funny that the 2 episodes aired back-to-back.

  7. I too feel that Ellie is Faraday’s mother, and perhaps Penny’s too… both with Charles Widmore.

Wouldn’t it be something if Charlotte is Daniel’s daughter… with Theresa? And he loves her, just not the way we first think he means. I understand the age difference… but think about Richard Alpert, and remember that Daniel was there when the Dharma Initiative was beginning, digging out the Orchid station.

    Very interesting stuff!

  8. Jen512 – Oh, I am glad to hear you loved Charlie, too. I miss him so much! I am going to say this – Season 4 was the 2nd best season of the serious as far as I’m concerned. I think The Constant episode was one of the best ever episodes on this show. I think you should be getting your butt to Blockbuster tonight to start renting those videos.

Jen – I have never watched Life on Mars. Is it any good? The title is stupid (To me) so I never wanted to watch. I read those Archie comics when I was a kid. I’ll have to check out your page soon.

Electrician – OMG, I am sick thinking about your finger. My friend just chopped off the tip of her finger and they couldn’t find it in the potatoes. She keeps making jokes that someone ate it …. get to watching the show and come back here soon!

Myrsini – I hope so … would make it interesting. Thanks … I’m not a LOST expert at all … but I like to attempt a new theory each week.

Pre-Trial Guy – Ha ha ha .. nice code name, by the way. Teresa did look like Charlotte. I’m wondering if The Constant thing has something to do with people who “owe” the island in some way. Perhaps that is why some people don’t seem to need one. I am now wondering after I’ve had two days to digest the show if Desmond was born on the Island himself, or if in some way he was a child of someone important, like Daniel or something. Can’t be Windmore’s son because that incest angle would be gross … and they already did it w/Boone and Shannon. Oh, hell, who knows? I think child Locke picked the knife because it represented adventure … and he didn’t go with his instinct, because as we all know his instincts suck.

RJ – You know, I don’t watch Life on Mars … but it was on in my room behind me while I was writing this … are you saying that scene wasn’t on LOST but on LIFE ON MARS? Now I’m confused as hell. I thought it was on LOST? Whoops if it wasn’t! Hell, I post right after each LOST, so who knows what happened. Wouldn’t it be funny if they did another falling for your sister plot like season one w/Boone and Shannon?

Reel Ninja- Thanks. You could be right! Oh, I need to know Daniel’s secrets now! I’m going to be so sorry when this show ends!!!

  9. Haha…nooo…I’m enemy number one at Blockbuster because I’ve kept too many movies, they probably have a picture of me up in the back.

I think I’ll try to download them.

  10. Great post! And really good catch about Richard’s visit with young Locke and the compass. Wouldn’t it be weird if in the strange way of time loops, the people on the Island only learned to time travel because of the Losties, who learned it from them? Ah, paradox. :)

  11. This is a hilarious Lost parody I came across on youtube.

There’s five in this series and they’re all worth watching!

  12. ELLIE the onee that points a gun at daniel faraday is also eloise who tells ben he has only 70 hours IS daniels mother.

Widmore says shes in LA. Ben jack and sayid, oh and jin and kate are in LA at the present.

  13. Jen512 – Anyway you can watch them, do.

Dube – Thanks! Are you blogging about LOST yet yourself?

Levi3man – I know, I think Mr. Widmore sent Desmond to LA because its a trick and he is going to be forced to go back to the island.
