So they tell me I need to see a Cardiologist now …

Yep, I was trying not to blog about it, but today I’m nervous and feel like talking about it.  For those of you who don’t read me blog regularly, I have been having all sorts of medical drama for a few years now.  And since March of 08, I have had shortness of breath with mild exercize and swelling all over my body.  And I have been having nausea and dizzyness and lightheadedness and fainting for a while … I was diagnosed with Vertigo (And I don’t think I have it, as the meds & exercises don’t work.)  And, sure, I have had chest pain for 10 years, but I have Fibromyalgia, so everything hurts.  You see the problem?  Too many things going on, not enough diagnosis occuring …. Anyhoo, let me get you up to speed:

In 2004 I had bad chest pain (Mostly its mild or just lasts a few minutes) and went to the ER.  I had an abnormal EKG (Which no one ever told me) and they said it was Plueralsy and discharged me, as I had had bad Bronchitis/walking Pneumonia the week before.  After ordering my medical records last month (Which of course the hospital threw in someone else’s records as well, can you say HIPPA violation?) I read Abnormal EKG, Left Anterior Fascicular Block (LAFB), and something else I can’t remember.  LAFB I think is like Left Bundle Bunch Block, or LBBB, but its in a specific area.

In 2008 I woke up, fainted, called in sick, went to two doctor’s appointments and by the time I had gotten to my Pulmonologist, my blood pressure was 67/44.  WTF, right?  So he sends me to the ER, and they ran every test and send me home, and not to a Cardiologist, but my primary care physician.  I thought I was ok.  My primary doctor did not have the 24 hour heart monitor for four days in a row, I got pissed off & switched doctors, as my Pulmonologist had asked me “Who is managing your care?” in response to hearing how many times I have been sick w/different things, etc.  So, I found a new doctor, and he told me don’t worry about it.  So I put it out of my mind and was happy.

Two weeks ago I had surgery, Laporoscopy, where the cut open my tummy in two spots, blow in air, and look for Endometriosis.  Just before surgery, the Anestisiologist reviewed my records, and almost canceled the surgery (As I have been told my my gynocologist.)  I’m calm and not nervous, until two doctors, two nurses and a physicians assistant are all in my face, asking me all sorts of questions.  They end up doing the surgery and when I wake up, I feel like shit, have a low heart rate and pulse, and my heart beat monitor reads 45 -57.  Bradycardia, again.  WTF?  The nurse keeps asking me to breath and to breath deep and fast, and I continue to feel weird like this throughout the night.  I have felt tired beyond belief since the surgery.  I have been going to bed @ 11 pm, which is rare, but have went to bed as early as @ 6:15 pm for the night.  I’ve been in bed for the past three weekends.

Tuesday I tell my Pulmonologist that my U-M Rheumatologist believes that I do not have Inflamitory Arthritis, but there are signs of inflamation in my blood work, and that she thinks I have something else … I tell him about the surgery thing … and how my new primary care doctor told me not to make a Cardiology appointment, that he said he was going to show my records to his Cardiologist co-worker and my doctor freaked out and told me I HAD to see one, that I have an electrical issues, and may have to wear a pacemaker some day.  WTF?  I talked to a nurse that I know and she tells me the same thing.  And my gyno, who I saw Thursday, tells me I HAVE heart issues and I HAVE TO GO!

Whoa, wait up … there’s more.  I have all of my medical records and tests from July & August, where the EKG’s the hospital did turned up abnormal, and showed everything from Bradycardia (Too slow of a heartbeat) to Incomplete Right Bundle Bunch Block to Left Axis Deviation (Enlarged Heart), to some weird thing w/the QRS waves I don’t understand.

The worst part?  I reviewed my Heart Echo last night, as well as my Stress Test (Which they couldn’t finish, I only got up to 70% – I was so sick from the medicine they used to induce the stress … and my blood pressure was like low, low low, 70/40 !!!) and the echo shows Trivial Regurgitation in two of the four heart valves … I’m thinking, my dad and grandfather both got heart valve replacement surgery @ age 50 (I’m almost 38!)  How is any blood regurgitation trivial?  The valves that are affected?  Mitral and AorticAortic regurgitation can be caused from the diet drug Fen-Phen, which I used twice in the mid ninties, so now I’m FREAKED out.  I took that crap for 2 or 3 months … OMG!  Did I give myself heart damage?  Oh, somebody who knows heart stuff better comment and calm me down asap!!!

  1. Im so sorry :( If you want to email me I will tell you some stuff but i want it private

  2. OMG this freaked me out too

  3. I am so sorry you have to go through this. I can’t imagine having to deal with all of that. Though I think you do amazingly well, considering. They wanted to do a stress test on me like the one you had done but I said no. I really hope you can get this all worked out soon so that you can get rid of all this stress you are going through.

  4. My thoughts are with you, I went through something similar, had to wear the heart monitor and all and ended up with a battery of tests and blood pressure was scarily low and then very high. They said it was from stress and anxiety. I hope this gets resolved for you fast. One day at a time, I wish you lots of luck and know that you are not alone.

  5. Wow. I can see why you’d be freaking out – too many different reactions from too many doctors. I can tell you that Incomplete Right Bundle Bunch Block is not too serious in or by itself because I had that show up on a scan too. The cardiologist who explained it to me was great although I can’t for the life of me remember what he said now or I’d tell you. But I can’t speak for the other stuff. I would think you would want to get everything checked just because of the family history anyway.

  6. Freakin Amazing!! Hang in there!!

  7. Kaylee – I hear you on the down low. Sure, email anytime … and let me know how your surgery went.

Joan – Yeah, I never want to have that stress test again. I felt close to death with that, ugh.

    Mercy – Thanks, I will.

Gen – I am sorry you went through the same thing. Getting sick sucks!

Teeni – I know RBBB is ok to have, but when you have the LBBB and the RBBB its not a good thing, from what I’m reading, but hell, I’m sure I’ll be told its nothing in two months from now.

  8. You must be totally freaked out. If they decide that you have aortic valve issues and need a replacement let me offer some reassurance. My mother had a titanium aortic valve replacement several years ago (not sure how old she was, but probably in her 80s) and she’s going strong now at 88. When she goes, it won’t be from her heart. Have they ever checked your vitamin D level? Not saying I’m playing a doctor here, but I used to get the shortness of breath and edema and it seemed to go away after they diagnosed severe vitamin D deficiency. It seems so simple that I am surprised none of my doctors ever looked for it. We don’t get enough of that in our diets, and here, in the Pacific Northwest, it’s gray 75% of the year, so no sun to replenish it in our systems. My level was nearly non-existent. Once I brought that level up to nearly normal, the edema went away, and so has the breathlessness (my weight loss has also helped that too.)

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not playing doctor or saying there isn’t something serious going on. I’m just suggesting that if they haven’t checked that, they should. It could help eliminate some symptoms, or at least rule that out as a partial cause.

My prayers are with you. You must be so scared, but hang in there, and keep being your own advocate and find the best doctor you can afford!

  9. Little Miss – I have some sort of vitamin deficiancy, but I thought it was B6. Who knows …. I just switched doctors and my new primary was overwhelmed by the stack of records I dropped off on my first visit. Thanks for telling me about your mom. I am glad she is doing good!!!
