The Girl from the Ghetto

I’m so cool … thank you for making my day John Elder Robison

July 16, 2008 · 17 Comments

I’m ever cooler than Fonzie….

Yesterday I finally checked my Myspace messages … (I’m sick of it, really, and hardly ever go on there) and low and behold, a real live celebrity writer “friend requested” me. I about died, I was so excited, and even took a crappy picture of the screen to prove I’m not making it up. Please see below:

Do you guys know who John Elder Robison is? He wrote the fabulous book Look Me in the Eye about his life story. And its wonderful .. he has such a great story telling ability, and has lived a very exciting and scary life, and he has Asperger’s, a mild form of Autism. And, my god, he is also the older brother of Augusten Burroughs, who I just love to death and seems so funny even though he’s been through so much.

He checked out my post about his own book … which you can read here. (Hopefully, with Teeni’s patient directions, I will have done my first-ever link!)

I mean, how cool is that, right? He also has a blog, and I’ve included it in my Blogroll if you want to check it out, which I recommend you do. I love how even their mother blogs and is a writer. Wow, what a family!

I don’t think I could have been happier unless somehow Judy Blume found me, emailed me, and told me she wanted to write a book with me. I’m not sure if I’ve ever done a blog post dedicated solely to her … but, let me tell you, I LOVE THAT LADY! She made me want to be a writer, and she made me find humor in my own life. Hell, I ever swiped my motto Life is an Adventure from her book Tiger Eyes … remember the message Davey finds in the cave under the rock by her older, cooler boyfriend? Awe, just look at my old books … kept all the older teen and womens books - but had to toss all my kid books by her they were so worn when I got married …

You are DEFINITELY cooler than the Fonz, even before John Elder Robinson friended you. That helps though. :)

i didn’t know Burrough’s brother wrote books too. i will definitely be on the look out for his book.

i love love Judy Blume. Every young woman should read Forever. Also, i loved Wifey. i found it strange and awesome- like Looking for Mr. Goodbar. God i love that book.

    i love books.

That is so cool, I loved the Asperger’s book, of course. I’m jealous and I’m gonna check JER on Myspace too. You still have to read Wade Rouse’s book “America’s Boy”. Cool about your mom and brother. Just start doing research for help. Ask every place you contact for more leads you can try… I have found that the Powers That Be often make the services intended to help people very difficult to obtain. You really have to dig, but I’ll bet free or low cost help is there.

Elaine - I was so excited! Will you send me an email with the name of that book, and the other one you recommended to me .. you know, the one where the author wrote you back? And Common Ground Sanctuary is the place I’m trying w/my mom, now shes dragging her feet so we will see!
