I love to read. I never have time to do it anymore. So I took a few blog days off and went to town, reading everything from:
Look Me in the Eye:- My Life with Asperger’s by John Elder Robinson (Brother of Augusten Burroughs) What an amazing story … this guy is a great story teller … watch out Augusten! He’s done everything from tour with KISS in the 70s to turn down a chance to work for Lucasfilms. (OMG!) A fantastic book to read, whether or not you know anyone with Asperger’s (Like I do.) This first hand account gives you a great look into the mind of a person with Asperger’s and why they think and act differently than you.
Candy Girl - Diablo Cody I don’t understand why a semi-normal and self proclaimed nerd such as Diablo would just decide it would be cool to start stripping … even though she had a day job. Even so, I enjoyed the book. She’s a great writer. Her life didn’t make sense, but she wrote her story well.
Me Talk Pretty One Day - David Sedaris Enjoyable, but not fantastic. I love a good dysfunctional family story more than anything, but of all the f-ed up writers out there, all I can say it was nowhere as good as Running with Scissors.
A Wolf at the Table: A Memoir of My Father - Augusten Burroughs I think Augusten Burroughs is a wonderful author. And he has lived a very colorful and dysfunctional life and writes about his experiences with such humor, as should anyone who has lived a very traumatic life. But, of all of his books, this was my least favorite. Not that the novel is poorly written, it is just very dark and gloomy. I suppose I feel this way because he is writing about his own early childhood, the years before Running with Scissors: A Memoir. And it made me very sad to hear of the even more awful memories that he was forced to deal with as a toddler and young child. I’ recommend this if you are up for a sad story that has a few funny moments thrown in. But, if you’ve never read Augusten Burroughs, then pick up any of his other books first.
I also read a book about Chakras … but already forgot the title. Only semi-interesting.
