I thought I’d share a list of cool random things that I’m crushing on that you may not be aware of:
Olga’s – For whatever reason, Olga’s has come back into my life after a six years. I’ve become re-addicted and have ate their four times in the past month. right now you can get unlimited snackers with any purchase of a cup of soup. ORDER THE SOUP, I COMMAND YOU, because unlimited snackers still taste good for breafast. My favorites are the BLT Olga, the Olga salad and the open faced mushroom and steak olga. You can check out their website here. Don’t forget to print your coupon: www.olgas.com
Entertainment Weekly Magazine – January 25th issue- It’s the one with Conan on the cover. Great, funny, laugh-out-loud article titled Conan’s Strike Diary. Day 60 was my favorite insert. They also have another great article titled You Too Can Survive the Strike which gives you a nightly guide to watching certain old dvd’s such as Arrested Development. You can read more here: www.ew.com
Silence of the Lambs- Always a great film (and novel to read) and recently came up for rethinking when my step-daughter wanted to know a good scary movie to watch. I told her I’m too old for gore, but my vote for her viewing pleasure would be this film which swept the darn Oscars. That darn scene with Buffalo Bill dancing still kills me all these years later. Learn more about it here: www.imdb.com and here: www.youtube.com
Juno- Love the quirky music, the great screenplay by Diable Cody, the great acting by Ellen Page and Michael Cera, and the subject matter of the film – teen pregnancy, but not in your typical, omg, my life is ruined, fashion. It’s just sweet, lovely and funny as hell. Love the ever-present boys track team running in just about every scene. You can check out more here: www.foxsearchlight.com/juno
Augusten Burroughs- Have you read Running with Scissors? Or at the very least seen the film? HE IS FABULOUS! I just love love his style of writing; he is so funny about things that are so horrible in his life. If you are a survivor like I am, you will love his books. If you have no idea who he is, please check out his website. He wrote the funniest and most disturbing book about childhood I’ve ever found. (Which to me, is the only way to do it.) And I love books about bad childhoods, as I had one, too, and they always make me feel better about my own life. All of his other books are great, too, and he wrote a very powerful bool called Dry about his adult struggles with alcoholism. I read the book which is awesome, but heard the movie is boring so I haven’t watched it. If you like “scissors” you have to read Wade Rouse’s “America’s Boy.” Same genre, very funny and strange. You will enjoy it and it is now available in paperback. (He is also on Myspace.)
